about

Andy (the guitarist/vocalist) worked in Cambodia for 6 months. This song was inspired by the reverse culture shock of returning to Australia after living in a third world country.

lyrics

A game show host is grinning as the contestants are grabbing
There’s money to be winning and the audience is laughing
The advertiser’s singing ‘cause the ratings are soaring
The blonde model’s teeth are gleaming, investors are applauding
It seems everybody’s winning so why do I feel so sick?
‘Cause it’s glorifying greed or ‘cause it’s all so fucking boring?
Change the channel there’s the answer staring at me from the screen
We play games while other people live in fear and poverty

I watched the news today
Never again man, that shit is fucking crazy
Put on Master Chef, make me feel ok
Wake me up from my Cambodian fever dream

The first thing that I notice is the unbearable heat
The smell is a close second, garbage piled in the street
The food is way too spicy and the hostel’s a mess
But those one dollar beers, they help me to forget
And now I’m wrapped around the toilet and I’m puking out my guts
Did I catch dengue fever or did I just drink too much?
As I leave I see a local girl with the most gorgeous face
She’s a goddess but she’s not enough to keep me in this place

I don’t wanna know baby what goes down below

Complimentary wine at thirty thousand feet
Put back your seat, enjoy your flight
