about

This is one of the oldest songs on the album. We played a version of it at our very first gig over 5 years ago. It's been through many transformations but this version is definitely the definitive one. For now at least.

lyrics

Mary, I’ve just got to know
You can tell me the truth
How does your garden grow?
Pretty maids all in a row
A maid as pretty as you
Need never wake up alone

Fingers slide down the fret board
Down the nape of her neck and her spine
We wanted love
And took all that we could hold
We stuffed full our pockets and started to run
And we’re just fine
This love is mine

Georgie couldn’t understand why
It wasn’t the girls in his school
Who would make his blood rise
Let me put it another way
Georgie Porgie pudding and pie
Kissed all of the girls
But it was a lie

We’re nothing more
Than debris in the breeze

Mary, Mary, quite contrary
This party is out of control
Little Bo-Peep has lost her innocence
Alice just dropped a tab of acid
Goldilocks is passed out in your parents’ bed
And the Mad Hatter is coming down
Mary all we wanted was a good time
The sun was setting and our lips were dry
So we turned up to the house with a box of wine
And the music’s playing
And the walls are swaying
And the shit we’re taking
Man I feel amazing
I never wanna see the sun rise
And we feel oh so high
To have just one more became a compulsion
So we drop the bucket, we pull up the lotion
And we feel like we’re never gunna die
But we just didn’t realise
Just how fast that well runs dry
